Once found in Northern NSW and South East QLD, these birds were named due to their brilliant colours and beauty, even by parrot standards. The landscape in this part of Australia has been changed almost beyond recognition since European colonisation, which along with the introduction of predators probably lead to its extinction. They made their nests in termite mounds and spent most of their time feeding on the ground, leaving them very vulnerable. Gone but not forgotten.
