Dabu Australian Animals Apron Earth
Dabu Australian Animals Apron Earth
Australia is renowned for its weird and wonderful animals. This design is a selection of some of our most iconic and lesser known critters. The Red Kangaroo bounding through the air was featured on our old Pennies before we switched to Australian dollars and cents. The mysterious Thylacine is a sad and most well know example of our many extinct species. The Cuscus, Bilby, Quoll and Numbat are lesser known, delightful animals that are all critically endangered.
The technique used to create these pieces is called Dabu. It is a block print mud resist process that uses natural dyes and washed multiple times. It is labour intensive and requires a lot of skill and knowledge, which is passed down through generations.
The look and feel of the fabric is soft and natural, you can feel the love that has gone into making them. Due to the natural dyes the fabric will slightly fade after the first few washes, making it softer and in our opinion even more beautiful. Please wash separately with other dark colours.
