Jagera pseudorhus is a rainforest tree and is part of the Big Scrub ecosystem. It is commonly known as Foambark or Soapwood due to the presence of saponins (bitter, toxic substances that foam when agitated with water) in its leaves and bark. The first nations of the area used to crush the leaves and place them in streams to catch fish by stunning them.

The Byron Bay Hinterland is undoubtably a spectacular area. But what most people don’t realise it is actually one of the most environmentally devastated areas on earth. The thick rainforest known as The Bigscrub was all but destroyed, only 1% of a totally unique habitat remained. Fortunately there has been some regrowth form tiny pockets that survived. One such tree, a beautiful Foambark outside the HMS Beagle studio window gives hope and inspiration as her delightful berries turn from purple to brown before dropping their seeds.

Embroidered on European linen 47X47cm. Machine washable, preferably in a bag, hot iron with steam, becoming even softer after each wash.
