The infamous bird with various names; Bush Turkey, Scrub Turkey or Brush Turkey. We also like the local Bundjalung name Wagan. One of our most popular designs is now available as a cushion. Love them or hate them, anyone who lives alongside these birds has an opinion of them. They are great survivors, adapting well to urban and suburban environments. Not everybody is happy to have them scratch up their garden. But in an age of rapid extinction, we are happy to see an iconic native bird thriving. Did you know that the male is solely responsible for incubating the eggs? He creates a giant compost heap out of leaf detritus and is able to monitor the temperature, add more leaf litter to warm up and removing it to cool. When the babies hatch they can already fly and are completely on their own.
We have two options of cotton inserts for the cushion filling. Our alpaca fleece inserts come from local alpacas that are owned purely as pets. The alpaca insert is quite dense, ideal for sitting in either on a chair or on the floor. It still looks good on display on the couch. The duck feather inserts (ethically sourced from China by an Australian company) have a plump full look that really shows off the designs.
